DVA Tutoring for the Kids of Veterans Families

Shield Tuition Academic Program

The Shield Tuition Academic program was created to support veteran families who want consistent, personalised learning support for their children. We understand that postings, deployments and time away from home can make it hard to maintain steady routines and those challenges often continue through to a child’s schooling and academic confidence.

Our program gives students the consistency, encouragement and structure they need to excel. Our program is evidence-based, focussing on the important aspects of learning: goal setting, consistent reinforcement, a conducive learning environment. Together, these aspects ensure our DVA Tutoring is exclusively for kids from Defence families. We are the only company in Australia with a dedicated program for Defence kids.

The program runs for eight months of uninterrupted weekly tutoring -no breaks, no long gaps -just consistent support. This DVA Academic program teaches the behaviours, habits and strategies that make children academically successful over the long term. Our company is focused on ensuring our students are set up for the long term.

Why Defence Families Deserve Extra Support

We work closely with each family to understand any challenges that might be affecting their child’s ability to reach their full academic potential. Depending on the nature of these circumstances, you may be eligible for support from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Some of the most common challenges include:

  • Frequent school changes due to postings or deployments

  • Periods of separation from a parent or carer

  • Mental health challenges such as PTSD, anxiety or depression within the family

  • Physical limitations or chronic pain making it difficult for parents to provide after-hours homework support

  • Suspected or diagnosed learning differences, including ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or anxiety-related learning barriers

Many veteran parents want to be more involved but are simply unable to sit for long periods or maintain consistency due to service-related injuries, pain or other commitments. That’s where we step in by ensuring that kids from defence families have continuous academic support.

Our team helps identify these key discrepancies and guides families through the DVA process to ensure there are no out of pocket costs for the veteran, with minimal stress or paperwork on your end. We do this from the start of the claim process, to the tuition we deliver and lastly, the invoicing - we take care of it to ensure there is less uncertainty and more academic progress for your child.

How to Get Started

Getting started is simple. Visit our website and complete our tuition enrolment form you’ll receive by email. This helps us determine your eligibility for DVA-funded tutoring.

Once that’s done, our team will contact your child’s school, complete the necessary DVA paperwork, submit the application, and manage all the administration for you. From there, your tutoring journey begins - with our dedicated team supporting your child every step of the way.
