In 2025, Bond’s medical school made a very subtle change which has a big impact on applicants applying to the program. The Bond’s Medical Program has made one of the biggest changes to the application process to date, and we feel it’s vital that potential applicants appreciate the implications. What was already an extremely competitive program has become even more competitive.
Since 2019, the Bond Medical Program’s application process has remained relatively the same, but in 2025, there was a big change that went relatively unnoticed.
What Was The Change?
Bond’s Medical Program introduced its first interview quota for QLD students. In 2025 and 2026, 40% of the medical interviews will be offered to Queensland and Tweed Residents.
This is a huge change; previously, no such quotas existed, meaning that there was no preference given to where in Australia you applied. However, there is now a growing preference for QLD and Tweed residents in response to the lack of doctors in Queensland’s health system.
What Are The Implications for Queensland Residents?
The obvious implication depends on where you live. For Queenslanders, Bond’s medical program appears to have more favourable odds for successful admission into the program. This is an obvious benefit. However, applicants should be aware that an offer to interview is not an offer to the program. For this reason, Queensland students should remain steadfast in their commitment to prepare for the interview. There will be no Queensland preference for spots in the program.
What Are The Implications for non-Queensland Residents?
Unfortunately, these changes make the likelihood of getting an offer to interview for the Bond medical program less likely. Furthermore, it means that students who live outside of Queensland will need a stronger Psychometric Test score to be successfully offered an interview for Bond’s program. This means non-Queensland residents need to perform even stronger in the Psychometric Test.
I am an NSW Student Applying to the Bond Medical Program. Will this affect me?
Yes, as a Non-QLD resident (assuming you are not from the Tweed Region), you will need a more competitive Bond Psychometric score to be offered an interview for Bond’s medical program. The best way to get a more competitive score is to be prepared earlier.
